MEMORY!

Just what is MEMORY? Well, I don't WHAT it is. However, it's something which each of us have. A synaptic interlude if you will. If you won't, howzabout this. It's a series of brain synapses or neurons all firing at once in some particular portion of the brain, be it the MEDULLA OBLONGATA or somewhere in the CEREBRAL CORTEX. I don't know, nor am I an expert on the BRAIN however, I have lived with a brain injury for the last seven years. And I think that in and of it self qualifies me on knowing some about what a brain injury can do to one. We all know a TBI manifests it self, or has the symptoms of memory loss. Everyone, having or surviving with a traumatic brain injury, shows this one main symptom. Although I'M not even sure of that. All TBIs are different. However, there must be an interruption in the neural pathways perhaps a permanent interruption. A temporary interruption of these pathways occurs when one uses mind altering drugs such as ALCOHOL, MARIJUANA, PSYLOSYBN, or LSD. What have you, hopefully, you don't have any of those, because they're all illegal, all except the one, which causes the most brain injuries of all ALCOHOL. I won't say that ALCOHOL should be outlawed. AMERICA already tried that once. And it became very obvious that, THAT was a mistake. We're all adults and we should be able to determine when enough is enough. And stop abusing this drug on our own. However, this is hard for some of us to do. Alcohol like many other mind altering drugs can be habit forming. Hence, we have such terms such as, we now deem it a disease as ALCOHOLISM. To me, if you want to use this term, you'd have to apply it to all of us. Potentially anyone who DRINKS ALCOHOL could be deemed an alcoholic. Have I lost you yet? Because, I was just rereading this little diatribe and I can't remember what I was trying to say. That's just typical for someone who's survived at least two TBIs, more if you count the drug abuse. I think I was gonna brag about how my particular TBI hasn't affected me as bad or in as negative a way as it has for others with milder forms of TBI than I'VE had. And although, I know all brain injuries are as different as people are, my brain injury, while it has caused short term memory for me, it hasn't caused great problems which CAN come with that. However, I don't think I could do too well as a DENTIST anymore. Oh I would be able to cut preps if my right hand worked properly. However, I couldn't keep up to speed with my patients. What I mean by this is that I wouldn't be able to remember what I was going to treat next on the patient, and I know that's what treatment plans are for, and charts. However, I liked to keep a mental file in my head on each patient. I know, I couldn't do that now. L Oh well, such is life.
